Ron Santo, the beloved Cubs’ player and radio announcer, died on
December 2, 2010 of diabetes complications.
I’m 22 years old, so I don’t remember when Ron played third base for
the Cubs. I do, however, remember vividly his broadcasts with Pat
Hughes on WGN Radio for the past few decades. “The Pat and Ron
Show” was indeed just that - a show. Every Cubs’ fan
loved listening to Ron’s humorous comments; he was the greatest fan and
a quality guy. If I can say this without having ever met him in
person, I can only imagine what others would say about him.
Ron, you will be greatly missed.
It won't be the same not hearing your voice in the 2011 season and
beyond.
Below are some audio clips of Ron Santo. Enjoy them as I did.
(Many thanks to the people who compiled them, WGN especially.)
